Route 66 Native Plant & Pollinator Festival

On May 2nd, Corry and I made the trip up to Elk City to check out the Route 66 Native Plant and Pollinator Festival. We were able to purchase some native plants, like phlox, black eye Susan’s, frog fruit, and several native species of milkweed. We were so excited because here in SW Oklahoma, we haven’t had any luck finding nurseries that sell native plants.

Do we have enough plants? We don’t think so!

We also purchased a mosquito bucket that lures the female mosquitoes to lay their eggs in the bucket, which contains a mixture of water, plant matter and a bacteria dunk. The water and decaying plant matter attract the mosquitos and the bacteria dunk kills the larvae. It was advertised as a pollinator friendly solution to mosquitos, instead of using pesticides. The Okies for Monarchs website has a lot of information on this, as well as diy instructions to make your own bucket. https://okiesformonarchs.org/mosquito-spraying-kills-pollinators/

Lots of happy pollinators around our yard! We will definitely be going to next years Native Plant and Pollinator Festival!
