Welcoming the Spring Pollinators

For the last few years, Corry has been working on creating areas around our yard to support our local pollinators. In the beginning, I worried that the neighbors wouldn’t appreciate the “wild look” of our yard, so I bought some cute signs that said “Pardon the weeds, we are feeding the bees”.

Don’t mind us!
Yarrow for dayssssss

This year, Corry and I have been putting a lot more work into the yard and have been planting native plants in our pollinator patches around the house. We have five different kinds of milkweed, black eye susans, Indian blankets, frog fruit, wine cup mallows, poke weed, yarrow, maxamillion sunflowers…. The list of plants we have growing is extensive! That will probably be a blog post of its own. For this post, I wanted to show off the signs we have around our yard, as well as some of our pollinator friends that have been enjoying our efforts.

Not sure what species this guy is…

Before this project of ours, I didn’t really think much about pollinators, aside from honey bees and butterflies. But there are hundreds of different species… and some of them are strikingly beautiful.
